Venice seen from Murano

Venice seen from Murano. The island of San Michele and the sun setting over the lagoon. Acrylics on paper – 24 x 32 cm

Original price was: £150.00.Current price is: £50.00.

A view of Venice seen from Murano. This is really just a colour sketch, something I dashed off after spending a long time with this view of the Thames – and it is priced accordingly.

Location of the view in Venice

For Venice lovers, a note about the landmarks. The viewpoint is the ferry terminal on the southernmost tip of Murano. On the left is the cemetery island of San Michele: you can see some of the funerary cypresses and the church of San Michele in Isola. On the right is the Fondamente Nova of Venice itself, with the church of Santa Maria Assunta Detta I Gesuiti (known simply as I Gesuiti) on the left. To the far right, you can see the campanile of Madonna dell’Orto (Madonna of the Orchard).

The colours of Venice

I wanted the colours to be ‘Venetian’, by which I mean the faded blues and dirty gold of a ceiling by Tiepolo, and I’m happy with the result. Venice is as much about the lagoon as it is about the city and islands, and the way in which the buildings melt into the sea.
