Sea and sun at Shoreham Beach

Original painting (51 x 41 cm) or high-quality limited edition (1 of 50) Giclée print (30.5 x 23.0 cm).

Please note: the frame in the image is a digital mock-up, the actual frame and mount will be very similar.

I painted this view of sea and sun at Shoreham beach in honour of (probably) my favourite place to go in the south of England, mostly because of the extraordinary (and vulnerable) vegetated shingle, a surreal explosion of colour and form that is little expected in such a hostile environment.

This view is not of the plants, but rather the sea, silvered by the sun, with small waves crunching on the shingle and drawn back with a rattling gasp.

If you like this painting you might also enjoy my small series of coloured pencil paintings of some of the plants on Shoreham beach: Bittersweet, Sea Kale, and Beach Aster.
